VCT project with financial support
from UNFPA is a component of the program “Decreasing
Childhood Mortality and Morbidity in Malawi.” The
project aims at helping adolescents to delay their sexual
debut and adopt safer sexual practices. Started in 2000,
the project, in collaboration with already existing institutions
and groups in the targeted disticts, aims to iincrease social
support for young people after receiving VCT through the
establishment of post test clubs (PTCs) in 4 districts:
Blantyre, Mwanza, Kasungu and Mzimba.
Objectives
To increase support services for tested young people
To increase involvement of young people in the provision
of support services
To reduce stigma and discrimination against HIV tested young
people
To promote safer sexual behaviors among tested young people
Recent Achievements
Facitlitation the establishment of 13 PTCs and revitalizing
Youth Ambassador PTC in Blantyre.
Several training workshops were conducted to orient PTC
members in their roles, responsibilities and life planning
skills.
39 members from Mzimba District AIDS Coordinating Committee,
Community AIDS Coordinating Committees and youth groups
were oriented on VCT and Youth friendly health services.
Financial support was made available to post test clubs
to support outreach activities.

Activities at these post test clubs include community sensitization, peer motivation,
recreational
activities, drama, songs and group discussion on HIV topics,
counseling and home based care.
The aim is to reduce stigma and discrimination against
young people infected and/or affected by
HIV/AIDS, educate general community about HIV/AIDS, encourage
condom use among sexually active, and provide support and
follow up counseling to the youth after VCT.
